Will not fire up ??? was created by Tonto
Guys, I got my Z13 about 5 weeks ago, but she has been stood for about the last 4 weeks following a starter clutch problemo. I was initially pleased with myself for fixing the starter clutch, but now, no matter what I do she will not start
She was running fine, before the starter clutch tale of woe, but now she flatly refuses to fire up: notwithstanding I have fuel, compression and a spark: is there any wierd Z13 ritual I need to be aware of. ?????? Any helpful suggestions appreciated.
Cheers Tim

Hello Tim:
In the approximate order.
Ignition cutout switch on the LH side panel? Needs to be to the horizontal ON position.
Loose battery terminals?
Weak or shorted battery?
Main fuse?
Good Ground?
Clutch starter lock out switch working?
Continuity through the starter button on the RH handlebar cluster?
Ignition switch contacts?
Todd.

The 13s are known for being hard to start. I presume that it is turning over by what you say.
Check the battery is in top condition, check the voltage when the starter is working ,it should be no less than 10.5 volts. Go through all the things Todd has suggested its amazing how you can just look right past the most obvious thing.
I found with mine that even leaving it outside at a rally or something where the dew can settle on everything will make it cantankerous.

Make sure you are not flooding the cylinders with too much fuel, common problem with these bikes, can you smell fuel at the exhaust after cranking over

found that worn brushes and carbon build up in the starter motor itself will "suck" all the power and make the bike hard to start

You probably think I am being silly here.............but will share this with you anyway.
First, be careful doing this.
Get a hair dryer or heat gun & carefully & slowly heat up your carbs over 5 minutes or so until they are body temp.
Try starting it then & let me know what happens.
