broke down, quick help

I had a similar situation, I was working one of my 13's in tthe driveway ( no garage) came out in the morning to go to work and bike was gone luckly found it in the bushes by the street (guess they counldn't get it started as the ign switch had a screwdriver put through it anyway i put a another switch in it completed the repair work i was in the mist of drove it around the neigbourhood just to showoff that it ran and then put a disc and wheel lock on it as a deterent.

Living in the states I have AAA. I have attempted to use them five times now. Each  time has been a failure. Granted, I tend to ride off the normal roads on little goat trails and what not but still.

The worst case I was on Highway one near Big Sur, which is a popular tourist area in my FJR blew the main fuse due to corrosion.

My buddy wrote 12 miles back to cell phone reception called AAA for me and they said it would be 45 minutes.

45 minutes turned into 4.5 hours which gave me enough time to completely tear the bike apart to get to the main mechanical fuse that I installed two years ago and then take the chance of just jumping around it.

When I talk to a tow truck guy he said it's actually cheaper not to pay the insurance and just paid the tow if you should break down.

He asked me how many years I've been with AAA and I said like 25.

He asked how many times have I used it.

I said four.

He said that that's my case.
 

He makes a good point BUT CAA and AAA have associated towing companies who have agreed to rate caps to control pricing of the service. If you don't have coverage,  you can negotiate with a tow company for a rate to tow from poiint A to point B but that can  be time consuming.
When you run into trouble, you call 1 number (Caa or AAA) and they arrange for the required service. Better than you calling around while sitting on the side of the road trying to find a company to get a tow. Reliability and quick effecient service has already been built into the system. They know their business.
Also, If you are a member of AAA or CAA, you have already paid for the service, so no surprise out of pocket expense at a time when you may not be in a good place to pay. A membership is an insurance plan with a guaranteed service.

 

I am ashamed to mentioned it, but I broke down again and got quick help (again). The bike stopped working while I was on the road, tank still filled, battery ok, starter motor turning but did not start running again so I suspected the magnet-valve that is installed to be broken an cutting of the flow of fuel to the carburettors. 
Will collect it today and see if I can make it home.

It's a long shot I've had the fuel cap vent plug up not sure if you're running a full injected bike or carb fry starting bike with fuel cap open
