Attaching terninals

This is my preference for attaching terminals, which applies to most. I never crimp ! I always solder for the best conductivity. I remove the original bulky plastic insulator that usually comes with the piece. They pull off easily. If the wire gauge is significantly smaller then the terminal opening I strip twice the length required and fold it in half, to fill the terminal end....then solder. I will use 2 pieces of shrink-tubing, if I can. The first piece always longer then the second and extend it so it shrinks over the end, as shown. This prevents the shrink-tubing from being pulled off, when removing the terminal from it's mate. Then slide on the second piece which is a bit shorter. Using two colors helps color-code that wire, if there are other similar colored wires with the same terminal style. Two layers also helps as a "strain-relief". The other advantage to soldering is: If for what ever reason that terminal end needs to be removed it's a simple matter to remove the shrink-tubing and unsolder the terminal without losing any wire length.

I also prepare all electrical terminals in exactly the same way, including the Bullet Type as used on many bikes. I use Glue Lined Heat Shrink too which makes them 99% waterproof too.

Having seen more motorcycle electrical issues and problems caused by the awful Blue / Red / Yellow Insulated Crimp type terminals, this is the only way !
